With Dacre Stoker, author, researcher, lecturer and great grand-nephew of Bram Stoker, creator of ‘Dracula’. Stoker Gathering, Whitby May 2023.
Although established in September 2012, AnthonyHodgsonArt is nevertheless a journey that spans decades; its artistic roots stretching back to the 1980s. My name is Anthony Hodgson, and I am thrilled to be able to share my creative evolution of gothic art with you through this platform.
Who am I?
The public inception of Anthony Hodgson Art was marked by the debut exhibition 'Husk,' held at The Departure Gallery in Limehouse, London, in July 2014. Since then, my art has captivated audiences around the country and abroad as I have actively engaged in various art groups, showcasing my diverse body of work.
Throughout my artistic journey, I have grappled with the challenge of finding my true creative voice amidst different styles. To this end I embarked upon a quest to understand concepts such as branding and Unique Selling Propositions (USPs). This led me to undertake two transformative mentoring courses in 2019 and 2020, giving me greater clarity, focus and direction.
The Birth of 3 Distinct Styles
AnthonyHodgsonArt:
At AnthonyHodgsonArt, my mission is to create powerful and evocative art that resonates deeply with its viewers. Through my creations, I seek to inspire, challenge, and encourage people to explore the uncharted realms of thought and perspective. If you find yourself captivated by the philosophical themes present in "The Matrix" and beyond, my art is bound to speak to your soul. Moreover, AnthonyHodgsonArt serves as a conduit for spiritual expression, infusing my creations with profound meaning and emotion.
WhitbyGothic:
WhitbyGothic pays homage to the Gothic allure of Whitby, capturing the mystique of the historic Abbey and the enigmatic tale of Dracula. The gothic art of WhitbyGothic aims to create a community that appreciates the darker, mysterious aspects of Goth culture. Moreover, WhitbyGothic seeks to provide solace and hope to those navigating the shadows of life, offering a sanctuary within the artistic realm.
Abundare:
Abundare draws upon the creative Anglo-Celtic heritage of Whitby; the marriage of the ancient, indigenous art of the British Isles with that of the Anglo-Saxon such as can be found in the Lindisfarne Gospels. I believe that British history, art and language as a reflection of our shared culture is something to be celebrated. So here you’ll find unique, original works and prints inspired by that fusion of the Celtic and Northumbrian art and spirituality that flourished over 1350 years ago at Hild’s monastery on the hill.
