Lady Midnight TShirt
BACKGROUND
I grew up in the ancient port of Whitby, situated on the edge of the North Sea on the north-east of England. Kings are buried here; world-changing events were decided here and men sailed to the ends of the earth from here. Whitby has always been nourished by the sea. Yet, just as the sea gives life, the sea also takes life. Here, I have imagined Lucy, the doomed heroine of Dracula, taking an evening stroll on the sands beneath the West Cliff, as so many visitors to Whitby do, before retiring to her lodgings for the night. The full moon, illuminating the still, midnight sea will soon bear witness to her malefic seduction by Count Dracula, the sole survivor of the Dementer, tragically wrecked below the East Cliff during a terrible, recent storm.
