Cometh the Beast, 2020

On the morning of the 13th April 2020 I had woken up very early. My head was full of images. I knew that if I fell back to sleep, when I awoke again the images would be gone so I got up and scribbled them (see above) down on a sketch pad before going back to sleep.

Those scribbles were the beginning of what became 'Cometh the Beast', a terrifying, dystopian nightmare of a piece inspired by all that was going on in 2020. The initial idea was of a spiderish silicon chip creature extending its limbs to encompass the globe, coupled with robotic entities inserting themselves/needles into heads and babies.

The theme was of course transhumanism and the so-called 5th Industrial Revolution. Very early on, the connection with Nazism and Eugenics was made via the WHO and the sterilisation projects of organisations such asthe Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, amongst others. I never imagined it would sell but it has, both as an A5 card, presumably to be made into a frame and as a Limited Edition wall art.
