Guardians of the Abbey T-shirt

£20.00

BACKGROUND

Bram Stoker, a Victorian writer and theatre manager, holidayed in Whitby in 1890. Like so many, he was smitten by the Romantic splendour of the ruined abbey, St Mary’s Graveyard and the many bats which flitted around the churches of the town. Following a visit to the old Whitby Library, now The Quayside Restaurant on Pier Road, he read 'An Account of the Principalities of Wallachia and Moldavia' and thus armed, went on to create the Gothic novel, par excellence, Dracula. Here, I have illuminated two of Stoker's inspirations - the abbey and the bats - with a sublime full moon to create a Gothic classic.

At its inaugural test run at the Tomorrows Ghosts Festival in October 2023, this striking Gothic Art TShirt based upon the popular ‘Guardians of the Abey’ piece sold out across four ranges in three days. As a result, it is only available in Medium. However we will be ordering a new batch with sizes ranging from S to 5XL which should be with us within a week.
